Don’t let the unoriginal name fool you. This tourist train from Seibu lives up to its namesake and some more. Months before departure, I was treated to omotenashi during ticket purchase when I wrote to inform the railway that I was the only passenger even though I purchased three tickets to meet the seat requirement. Mr. Yang was grateful for my gesture to eliminate food waste and insisted on refunding me for one person. The experience only got better from there.
Most tourist trains that provide food often procure it premade from a third party. It came as a surprise to me that car two was dedicated almost entirely to a kitchen. If that wasn’t enough, the space is open behind a glass for anyone to watch the chefs at work. If I thought serving food was hard on a moving train, imagine cooking on one.
The staff also left me a hand written note attached with a cute drawing of Mt. Fuji. Souvenirs doesn’t get any better than that.
