I knew something was wrong when I looked at my watch and it was two minutes after departure yet we were still at the station. By five minutes, they announced there was a delay then not long after, the train was canceled due to potential weather. While it was disappointing to have my journey cut short, I consider it an unlocked achievement. Furthermore, it gave me first hand experience on how Japan handles such a situation.
Beyond the announcements of cancellation, instructions were given for passengers to board another train. Meanwhile, staff patiently worked with individuals who required more help. The plan was for the local train to retrace our steps to a station where we can connect with a limited express train. The drag of having to make over a dozen stops was somewhat alleviated by the surprised faces of the locals finding their usual commute suddenly packed like sardines.
The entire process was as painless as possible. Staff were ready to guide passengers at both stations for transfers. There was no need to rearrange booking or tickets. Staff simply waved everyone thru the gates. All said, I arrived at my destination only two hours later then originally scheduled.
